Golden Rules for Fire Safety
Back
Home
Sit down with your
children and other family members and take the time to
discuss and familiarize yourselves with these few
golden rules of fire
safety. In the event of a fire, your lives may
depend upon how well you
know and adhere to them.
Never
play with fire or
matches.

Never
use the stove unless
supervised by an adult.

Never
play near fire or a hot stove.
Never start a fire.

Never
turn in a false alarm.
The above "5
Never's" are very important.
There are
a lot of other Golden
Rules of Fire Safety
that you also need to know.
Some other rules for fire safety that are just as golden:
* Plan a home exit
drill.
* Keep old papers and rags out of the basement
and attic.
They are a fire hazard.
* Check for frayed wires and light cords.
Do not place them under rugs or carpets.
* Only one appliance should be plugged into an
extension cord.
* Never store gasoline or other flammables in
the house. Always store
them in a fire safe container.
* Always have operational Smoke Detectors.
Check the batteries
frequently to make sure they work. Smoke
Detectors save lives.
* If your clothes catch on fire, DO NOT RUN! STOP,
DROP, and ROLL to
smother the flames.
* Always sleep with your bedroom door closed so
that, in case of a fire, it
will help keep the smoke and flames out of your
room.
* In case of a fire while you are in bed, get
out of bed, crawl very low on
the floor and feel the door. If the door is hot,
do not open it. Use your
alternative exit plan.
* If the door feels cool, open the door very
slowly. Look to see if you can
exit safely, then use your fire exit plan.
* Always go to a designated meeting place.
Remember, NEVER go back
into a burning building!
